Q: Can I use the Myvu viewers with my iPhone?

A: Myvu Crystal is certified to work with iPhone. Myvu viewers not marked as “Works With iPhone” have not yet been certified to work with the iPhone. However, Myvu Made for iPod versions, like many iPod accessories, will work well with the iPhone when the iPhone is set to Airplane mode.

With the new Myvu Connection Cable, you can connect your existing Myvu Personal Media Viewer to iPhone or iPhone 3G. With this accessory cable, there is no need to switch your iPhone to airplane mode.

*Please Note: This applies to Myvu Crystal, Myvu Shades and Myvu Solo Plus (Made for iPod) sold on www.myvu.com. Myvu Solo, sold in other retail outlets, will not work with iPhone.

Q: What types of players does Myvu work with?

A: The Myvu personal media viewer Made for iPod versions work strictly with all video iPod models, including the new iPod nano, iPod touch, iPod classic and the 5th generation video iPod models.

Myvu Standard editions will work with 5th generation video iPod models, most portable DVD players and select mobile phones and portable media players with video out capabilities. Myvu Standard editions do NOT work with the new lineup of iPod devices or the iPhone unless you purchase the additional Myvu Connection Cable.

Q: How do I connect the Myvu to my laptop?

A1: Some computers have a composite or S-Video output* that can be plugged into the Myvu with usually just a cable or adaptor. Composite (RCA plug connection) or S-Video (circular plug with 4 or 7 pins) is the preferred way to connect to the Myvu if it is available, because there is no video converter box required. Connect the Myvu using the RCA A/V cable included in the Standard connection kit and either a RCA to RCA or RCA to S-Video adaptor found at any electronics retailer.

A2: Almost all laptops have an external monitor connection* (15 pin connector) that can be used with a video converter to connect to the Myvu. You will need a PC to Video converter such as the Avermedia Quickplay (www.avermedia.com) or Grandtec PC to Video EZ (www.grandtec.com). These are powered by USB from your laptop, so they are more mobile. There are many scan converters like this available with varying quality and features. A simple way to test the converter is to use it with a TV first to get used to the setup, and then plug it into the Myvu viewer using the Myvu RCA A/V cable. Be aware, there is usually significant loss in video quality and/or resolution through the conversion.

* Refer to your computer's documentation for help setting up the video to display properly on an external monitor.

Q: Can I use my Myvu with the PSP?

A: Yes, with the PSP Composite Video Cable. Connect the PSP Composite Video Cable to the Myvu RCA A/V cable and select "Switch Video Output" in the "Connected Display Settings" menu. Unfortunately, this connection type only works with UMD videos, not games. It is possible to see gaming display by connecting to the PSP Component Video Cable if a component to composite video converter (typically very expensive) is used.

Q: Will the older Myvu Solo Edition work with the new generation of iPods?

A: No, the Myvu Solo edition will only work with the 5th generation iPod with Video (30GB, 60GB, 80GB).

Q: How long does the battery last? How do I charge it?

A:fully charged Myvu Solo Plus or Crystal connected to a fully charged portable media player has a run time of approximately four hours. Shades 301 has a battery life of 10 hours. Myvu comes with a mini-USB cable for charging that can be plugged into a USB wall adapter (not included) or laptop computer.

Q: I wear glasses. Can I use the Myvu?

A: There is a Myvu Clip-on lens available to accommodate eyeglass wearers. This low-profile lens snaps easily onto the inside face of the Mvyu personal media viewer. The Myvu Clip-on lens package comes with a -2 lens for slight focus adjustment, -4 lens for greater focus adjustment and a blank lens template included for filling custom prescriptions. Click here to order.

Q: How is the image quality?

A: The resolution and display size offered by the Solo Plus, Shades, and Crystal allow for an impressive, bright, crisp image - perfect for watching standard definition movies or video content. Solo Plus and Shades provide a Quarter VGA resolution (320x240) and Crystal provides a Full VGA resolution (640x480). 320x240 resolution and 640x480 resolution is generally not high enough to do computer work where reading fine text is a requirement, but 640x480 (Myvu Crystal) is more than adequate for text like subtitles and game stats.

Q: Can I use the Myvu on a sunny day?

A: Yes, the viewer is considered a near-eye display and can be used outside as a daylight readable device. However, wearing a hat or visor will improve the user experience.

Q: Are the Myvu optics adjustable?

A: No. The optical system is designed to accommodate comfortably a person’s IPD (inter-pupillary distance, or distance between the eyes) of about 58 to 69 mm. If you find that one side of each eye is ‘clipped’ or it is hard to see clearly, you may be out of this range. Sometimes it is possible to adjust the nosepiece so that the Myvu lenses are closer to your eyes, allowing an increased IPD accommodation. This is similar to looking through a small hole – the closer you are to the hole, the more of the scene can be seen behind it. The optical system is designed this way to better maintain the rigidity of the product over its lifetime and to keep the system components small.

Q: What if the Myvu will not turn on?

A: Please make sure you have charged the viewer prior to use. To charge the device, use the mini USB to USB cable. The mini USB end should be plugged into the side of the pendant controller. There is a small rubber flap covering the mini USB port. The large USB end of the charging cable can be plugged into a computer’s USB port or a wall charger if you own one. Charging with a wall charger is a faster process. The pendant light should flash while charging and then turn solid when the charging is complete.

Q: What is the difference between the iPod connection cable that comes with the Solo Plus and Shades iPod editions vs. the new iPhone cable packaged with Crystal and for sale as an accessory?

A: The "made for iPod" editions of the products come with a cable that will work with the iPhone. It will, however, prompt you to put the phone into airplane mode while using the viewer. We do sell a new accessory cable on our website that has been certified "works with iPhone" and essentially that just means it will no longer require the user to go into airplane mode. This cable is also packaged with the Crystal in the "works with iPhone" edition. Regardless, both cables can connect to the iPhone.

A: Myvu personal media viewers will work with devices that have composite video out capabilities. If you are unsure if the device you own has this capability, please contact the manufacturer.

Q: Can I use a Myvu with my computer?

A: Myvu devices cannot be connected to a computer right out of the box and the connection to a computer cannot be done via one cable or a simple connection. You would need to make sure there is S video out on the computer and then would have to convert the video to RCA. We do not sell the cables for this connection and it is important to note that text may be difficult to read with the Myvu device. We do plan to have a viewer that allows for direct connection to a computer in the near future.

A: The viewer has a focal distance that is preset at the factory. There is no focus adjustment. If you cannot see the video image clearly, first try to adjust the nosepiece so that myvu shades is situated properly on your face. If you still cannot see the video image clearly, you may need to wear a corrective lens with your viewer. A clip-on focus adjustment lens, the Myvu clip-on Crystal edition, is available for the viewer.

Q: What if the video is clipped or black bars appear on top and bottom of the image?

A: The viewer is designed to display a video image with a 4:3 aspect ratio in order to match the standard TV image. If you’re viewing Widescreen content and your portable media player allows you to turn Widescreen On, the image will appear in a letterbox format, with black bars appearing on the top and bottom of the image.

Q: What if the audio is weak or nonexistent?

A: Verify that all connectors are properly attached. Adjust the volume on myvu’s pendant or adjust the volume on your device.

Q: What if the audio is too noisy?

A: If the media player has adjustable volume, try turning down the volume on the Myvu pendant and turning up the volume on the media player. This makes a stonger audio signal from the media player, and usually reduces noise.

Q: What if the battery is not charging or is charging slowly?

A: Verify that the USB cable and all connectors are securely attached. For the fastest charging time, it is recommended that you use the USB cable with a USB wall charger to charge your myvu. Charging your Myvu with the USB cable connected to a computer is possible, but might result in slower charging times. If you continue to experience technical problems, please contact Myvu Corporation technical support.

A: Myvu Standard viewers and Myvu Universal viewers are the same product with the same compatibility. However, the product name “Universal” has been phased out on myvu.com and replaced with “Standard.”
